Troubleshooting Tap to Pay on iPhone
How do I know if a customer's payment card is contactless?
Contactless cards have an EMV® contactless indicatoron the back or front.
When the customer taps their card, the interface displays an error "Try another card" or "Card cannot be read". What does this mean?
This means that the customer is using a contactless card that is not supported by our company. For example, a foreign customer may have a card that is not commonly accepted outside their region. We try to support as many payment cards and methods as possible.
What if the contactless payment card is not read?
The performance of contactless cards can vary depending on the design of the card, such as the card material or the location of the antenna. As a result, some cards are easier to load than others.
To ensure a successful card read, try the following procedures:
- First, ask the customer to hold their contactless payment card directly on the device with the chip on the left side and the longer side of the card aligned with the edge of the tapping surface for a few seconds.
- If the card still fails to read, ask the customer to slide the card and center the chip directly over the cutout on the device.
- If the contactless card remains unread without any feedback from the interface, the card may have a damaged antenna or may not work with contactless payments.
